The series draws attention to the important efforts underway in our nation’s education community to address both sex and labor trafficking. On behalf of the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Office of Safe and Supportive Schools, the National Center on Safe Supportive Learning Environments (NCSSLE) invites you to join the next webinar in this series, Building Protective Factors to Reduce Student Vulnerability to Human Trafficking. Wednesday, June 28, 2023 3:00 – 4:30 pm EDT For every human trafficking risk factor, there is a protective factor we can build to help reduce the likelihood that a student will be groomed for human trafficking. In this webinar, we will explore some of the protective factors school personnel can provide and help students develop so they can avoid or leave human trafficking situations. This webinar will provide brief presentations on protective factors. For example, presenters will discuss strategies for helping students develop financial literacy skills because research suggests that poverty is a risk factor for human trafficking. It will also include a panel discussion with an expert with lived experience, a director of elementary counseling for a school district with an expansive anti-trafficking program, and a professional from a community-based organization focused on helping girls who are black, indigenous, or people of color avoid or leave situations of sexual exploitation. We will end the webinar with a live Q&A where we will respond to your questions related to building protective factors for young people.
