To address and reduce interpersonal violence on college campuses across South Carolina, Gov. Henry McMaster and the General Assembly established the state Institute on the Prevention of Sexual Violence on College Campuses. Commonly referred to as the Institute, it was chartered at Lander University and is based at the University Center of Greenville. “Sexual assault is the most complex issue on college campuses today, and we’ve got to be able to address this topic in meaningful ways,” Matthew Hammett, executive director of the Institute, said. “Having spent 12 years working in the field of sexual violence, I have seen how disruptive it can be to student success.”
