Skyrocketing rents at FSU: Are students being priced out of affordable housing?

Rent and cost of living are pertinent topics in today's economy. However, a less frequently discussed but equally important issue is the rising cost of college housing, with rent in college towns like Tallahassee reaching unprecedented levels. Off-campus housing has become increasingly popular among students, but how accessible are these now-considered luxuries? When the FSView reported on this issue just seven months ago, the average rent in Tallahassee was $839 — an increase of 30% over the past three years. According to data from the Tallahassee-Leon County Office of Economic Vitality, that figure has now risen to $902.
