Follows up on April 2016 report on U.S. college students’ views of First Amendment rights. The Knight Foundation and the Newseum Institute partnered with Gallup to conduct a survey of students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). For this study, Gallup conducted telephone interviews with 302 full-time students at HBCUs, 93% of whom identified their race as black or African-American. Throughout this report, HBCU students’ opinions are compared with those of a national sample of 3,072 college students (including HBCU students) and, from that larger national sample, 357 black students at non-HBCU colleges.
