The CDC release of “Prevalence and Characteristics of Sexual Violence, Stalking, and Intimate Partner Violence Victimization — National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey, United States” using 2011 data report that on average, nearly 20 people per minute are victims of physical violence by an intimate partner in the U.S. Nearly 2 million women are raped in a year and over 7 million women and men are victims of stalking in a year. Findings emphasize that sexual violence, stalking, and intimate partner violence are major public health problems. Prevention efforts should start early.
