School climate surveys typically include sets of questions or scales that are designed to measure their underlying constructs or concepts. Once data have been collected, it is important to evaluate the reliability of those scales to determine if they appropriately measure the underlying constructs. During this Webinar, Dr. Lorin Mueller, Principal Research Scientist at the American Institutes for Research, focused on evaluating the reliability of surveys and other assessments. Specifically, he addressed the following:
- The purposes of conducting reliability analyses;
- The three major facets of reliability;
- Common methods for evaluating reliability for different data types;
- Methods for evaluating reliability for non-continuous or mixed data;
- Methods for handling unreliable responses; and
- Methods for improving reliability.
