Higher Education

Campus safety refers to the practices and policies in place to promote a secure and protected environment at institutions of higher education (IHEs) where students feel safe from violence, harassment, the influence of substance use, natural disasters, and other emergencies.

Safe IHEs promote the protection of all students from violence, including gun and sexual violence, threats, theft, bullying and harassment, the influence of substance use, natural disasters, and other emergencies. Campus safety is linked to improved college student and institutional outcomes. In particular, emotional and physical safety are related to student well-being and academic performance.
